Artist's Bio

Cindy’s work springs from a lifelong fascination with nature.  From botanical watercolors to oil landscapes or acrylic murals, capturing the design and colors of natural forms has long been her artistic pursuit. Cindy has exhibited her work throughout southern Connecticut for the past twenty years.  She has completed several botanical and zoological murals for small museums and dozens of commissioned botanical illustrations for local businesses and magazines.

Cindy studied studio art and printmaking at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut.  Later she received her Bachelor’s in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven and became an art teacher.  She has completed several graduate courses in scientific illustration and biological studies at both Southern and the University of New Haven.  Recently, she has finished her Master’s degree that included concentrations in both visual art and field biology at Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT.

After teaching art in both private and public schools for 15 years, Cindy now works out of her studio in West Haven, CT.  Currently, she is producing a body of work concerning the designs, textures and colors of New England’s native plants.  She still illustrates for local landscape and botanical concerns and teaches watercolor workshops to groups at various locations in New Haven County.

As a member of The Guild of Scientific Illustrators, the American Society of Botanical Artists and The Connecticut Botanical Society, she exhibits widely and stays current with modern trends. She also is represented by the KCK Gallery in West Haven, CT.

Cindy’s goal is to increase environmental awareness by providing a more focused look at the landscapes, plants and animals around us.  She finds that there is something almost spiritual that is gained from looking at life forms intently.  Working from nature is and always has been her passion.
