Salt Meadow Cord Grass

Salt Meadow Cord Grass (Spatina patens) grows in the intertidal area of most salt marshes. It is specially adapted to withstand saltwater flooding twice a day. Covering large open areas of tidal marsh, this type of grass often forms cowlicks and swirls as it mats the areas. While providing protective covering for marsh snails, and meadow voles, it also provides seeds and nesting areas for Salt marsh sharp-tailed sparrows, Seaside sparrows and Willets.
