Black Willow

This is an oil painting 3' wide x 4' high of a beautiful old tree in my back yard. Salix niger is it's latin name. Willow bark of most types was the forerunner of aspirin in herbal medicine.  It reduced inflammation, soothed the digestive track and reduced mild fevers.  The dried bark was steeped in simmering water for 10-20 minutes and then sipped with a spoon of honey to sweeten it.   It's a sure sign of wetland areas as are most willow trees.
