Little Yellow ( Eurema lisa ) likes warm weather and can usually be seen on the eastern side of northern South America, the West Indies up to the Carolinas. In the last few decades, however, they have become more frequent visitors further north to the Great Lakes Regions and New England. The Little Yellow cannot survive cold winters. The species refills the Northeast and Midwest every year with fresh immigrants, which furnish one to two more broods before the autumn chills kills them. Vast numbers of Little Yellows emigrate to the Caribbean and Atlantic. Columbus is supposed to have witnessed from the decks of the Santa Maria one such mass movement of Little Yellows. For most male Little Yellows, on their dorsal side, the body is black with wings of bright yellow with black tips and margins on their front and hind wings. On the males' ventral side, the bright yellow gradually changes to yellow green for the bottom of the wings and the underside of the body. Spots at the tips of the wing veins and black blotches and splatters are typical of the ventral side wing markings.
