The Sensitive fern (Onoclea sensibilis) are very common in wet ground, fresh water marshes and swamps. They can grow from 15" up to 30" high. The big leafy fronds are sterile and lobe towards the tip. Female fronds are a purplish brown and and have a beaded appearance. They remain standing long after the more "sensitive" greens have wilted and died from the slightest of frosts. Root systems continue as rhizomes just deep enough in the ground to avoid the frost and enable the sensitive fern to return each year.
All watercolors may be purchased as an original painting, or as a Giclee Print in a variety of sizes. For further viewing, purchase, or commissions, please contact me at: clgilbane@gmail.com Home Watercolor CollectionsWoodland Series Next in Series
